Our distinguished Chef Orlando was born in Chokwe, Mozambique, and moved to South Africa with his mother and two sisters when he was nine years old to escape the troubled period Mozambique was experiencing at the time. He was schooled in Bushbuckridge and spent all of his school holidays working and learning in a Lodge kitchen to earn his pocket money, which is where he first met Sonja.
This was where his passion for the culinary arts began. After matriculating, he attended a chef’s training course where he successfully received his qualification. His passion in the kitchen nurtured by Sonja; a self-confessed “foodie fanatic” is ongoing and evident in the variety of cuisine he presents to our guests at Sausage Tree.
Other than enjoying the amazing cuisine from Orlando’s kitchen, his very special seeded bran rusks will definitely have you looking forward to your first cup of coffee at sunrise. Home-made muffins, breads, cakes and biscuits punctuate the rest of your day, filling in the gaps between meals.
Pitso, Orlando’s assistant cook, who with the guidance and training of Orlando and Sonja blended together with his own passion, dedication and talent has become a first rate master of the kitchen in his own right.
If you like peanut butter, you’ll love Sabastian’s home-made, preservative free peanut butter which is simply the best. We also recommend our own range of locally made Chilli sauces, which will definitely tantalise your taste buds.
We cater for most special dietary requirements and go the extra mile to serve tasty, dietary dishes that are of the same standard as our ‘ordinary’ fare.
